EQUIPMENT / ONE-WAY LEASING

One-way container leasing

Plan the equipment movement and return obligations together.

What a one-way lease covers.

A one-way container lease sets out pickup at one agreed location and off-hire at another. Equipment sourcing, release instructions, permitted use, the lease period and return conditions need to be agreed before the movement begins.

SOC equipment requires separate carrier acceptance. A leasing enquiry does not reserve a container or include a freight booking.

Choose the equipment specification.

Common dry-container enquiry terms
EquipmentUse in an enquiryConfirm before booking
20GP20-foot general-purpose dry containerPayload, dimensions, condition and suitability
20HQ20-foot high-cube containerDimensions, payload, condition and availability

Inspection records, safety approval status and any CSC plate requirements must be checked for the specific unit and transport arrangement. Equipment descriptions are not condition certifications.

Agree the pickup and off-hire process.

  • Pickup depot, release reference and collection window.
  • Equipment condition, handover survey and cargo suitability.
  • Use period, free-use terms, charges and extensions.
  • Authorised return depot, appointment and acceptance conditions.
  • Survey, damage or repair responsibility and off-hire receipt.

Questions about leasing.

What is one-way container leasing?

A one-way lease specifies a pickup location and a different, agreed off-hire location. The agreement determines the use period, charges, condition requirements and return obligations. A different destination does not by itself end the lease.

What is an SOC container?

SOC means shipper-owned container, an equipment category used when the container is provided by the shipper or another equipment provider rather than supplied under the carrying line’s usual equipment arrangement. It does not mean the cargo shipper necessarily owns the leased unit.

Which container types can I enquire about?

You can enquire about 20GP, 20HQ, 40GP and 40HQ equipment. GP denotes general-purpose equipment and HQ denotes high-cube equipment. Confirm the exact dimensions, payload, condition and availability for the intended shipment.

Does an SOC lease include a freight booking?

Equipment leasing and freight carriage are separate arrangements. The carrier must confirm SOC acceptance, documentation and booking requirements. An equipment quote is not confirmation of freight space.

When does off-hire take effect?

The lease agreement defines effective off-hire. Confirm the authorised depot, return date, condition survey, acceptance receipt and any outstanding charges in writing. Arrival at a destination city alone is not off-hire.

Is availability guaranteed?

No. Equipment supply, pickup release, destination acceptance and commercial terms require written confirmation for each enquiry. Market navigation describes enquiry categories, not confirmed stock or depot coverage.

Will a one-way lease reduce my costs?

Compare the complete equipment and transport costs for the specific movement, including lease charges, trucking, lifts, free-use periods, detention, surveys and repairs. There is no universal saving percentage.
